Quadriceps Tendinopathy Rehab

This condition is usually characterised by activity-related anterior knee pain with localised tenderness at the superior (top) border of the patella (kneecap). It is most commonly seen in athletes where the knee is repeatedly loaded, stressed and extended, causing chronic degeneration of the tendon.

The aim of treatment/rehabilitation for this injury is usually to decrease pain and inflammation, lengthen the quadriceps muscles and gradually increase the load through your tendon as you return to full fitness.

The videos shown are just some examples of exercises we might prescribe throughout the rehab process for this condition, ranging from:

➡️ Isometric contractions to help desensitise pain

➡️ glute/hamstrings co-contraction to help offload the quadriceps tendon/knee initially

➡️ eccentric based strengthening exercises to help lengthen the quadriceps under load

➡️ functional strengthening to help build strength and resiliency of the quads tendon in preparation for return to play

Are you currently struggling with your own injury and unable to get back to the activities you enjoy??
